Als gute Mutter, die ich nun mal bin, bestehe ich natürlich drauf, daß meine Kinder lange Unterhosen anziehen, wenn das Thermometer unter -10°C fällt, was dann mit den Worten "Aber Mama, es ist doch nicht kalt" kommentiert wird ...
Being the good mother that I am, I usually insist on my kids wearing long johns, as soon as the thermometer drops below -10°C. My kids always comment this with "You call this cold?"...
Natürlich trage ich selbst auch keine langen Unterhosen. Aber -10°C ist doch kalt, oder?
Könnte es tatsächlich sein, daß wir in Kanada ein anderes Gefühl für Kälte entwickelt haben? Als wir vor drei Jahren hier ankamen und uns bei -14°C dick einpackten, fiel mir damals schon auf, daß wir scheinbar die einzigen waren.
Im ersten Winter kam dann auch gleich der Kälteschock mit -35°C und seitdem scheint Kälte relativ zu sein... so laufen wir grundsätzlich in die Arbeit/Schule, wenn es wärmer als -20°C ist - schließlich machen die Schulen auch erst ab dieser Temperatur einen "inside day".
Mittlerweile ertappe ich mich auch selbst daß ich morgens aufs Thermometer schaue und bei -3°C die Winterjacke bereits im Schrank lasse...
Bei der letzten nächtlichen Weihnachtsparade im November musste ich jedoch einen klaren Strich ziehen: bei 0°C war tatsächlich einer der Zuschauer in kurzen Hosen unterwegs. Auch wenn mich meine Kinder mit flehenden Augen ansahen - denn 0°C ist ja schon fast Strandwetter - zu den kurzen Hosen sage ich nur "Ja", wenn sie darunter lange Unterhosen tragen!
Of course I don't wear long johns myself, but -10°C is cold, right? Or could it be that we've adapted to the cold (I know we have not started growing fur)?
When we moved here three years ago and bundled up at -14°C it seemed like we were the only ones... then came our first winter here with temperatures around -35°C and ever since then, cold just seems to be relative...
We always walk to work/school if it's above -20°C - after all, the schools only have inside days if it drops below that!
I meanwhile catch myself looking at the thermometer in the mornings and even leaving the winter jacket in the closet, if it's above -3°C...
At last year's nighttime Christmas parade, however, I had to draw the line: it was right around the freezing mark, and one of the spectators was actually wearing shorts! And even if my kids were looking at me with puppy dog eyes - after all, 0°C is almost beach weather - the only way I will say "Yes" to shorts is if they wear long johns underneath!
