I've been meaning to get going on the "Happy Immigrants" for a while now, but I've just been to busy finishing the book I am working on. The deadline with my publisher is October 31 - the good news is that I am right on schedule. Also good news is, that my children provide a constant stream of material for this blog, but let's start with the basics - the protagonists of the Happy Immigrants...
Eigentlich wollte ich den ersten Teil der "Happy Immigrants" schon lange in Angriff nehmen, war aber bisher einfach zu beschäftigt mein Manuskript für das Buch, bei dem ich Co-Autorin bin, fertigzustellen. Abgabetermin ist der 31. Oktober - aber ich liege voll im Plan. Derweil liefern mir meine Kinder konstant neues Material für diesen Blog, also brauche ich gar nicht lange nachdenken; aber eins nach dem anderen - hier sind die Hauptdarsteller der "Happy Immigrants"...
Let's start with the Mom - that would be me! I am the one trying to hold it all together, sometimes maybe trying a little too hard... All in all, I'm pretty awesome, though!
I try to see the big pictures and strive for a life less ordinary. Lately, I seem to have a real low tolerance for bullshit. My motto is: "Whatever you are, be a good one" (Abraham Lincoln), even though I have the occasional day when it's more like "It's too bad that stupidity isn't painful" (Anton Lavey).
What I'm really good at: holding a grudge.
Next is the Dad, my husband. He's grumpy on his best day and tends to have a short fuse. What bugs him most right now is that his little girl is growing up...
Generally, he's a happy camper (loves to go out in the motorhome and loves to fish) and a happy plumber.
His motto is: "Shit happens and it usually runs downhill"
What he's really good at: extreme couching.
Then there is the oldest boy. A natural blonde, sweet and smart and really naive. He manages to be caring and worried, honest and dramatic at the same time.
One of his best qualities is that he is very realxed and non-competitive, while still trying to do his best. One of his not so good qualities is that he is a fan of Justin Bieber and Cody Simpson.
He usually drives his little brother insane by acting like his mother and really takes that part off my hands...
His motto is: "Can I have an iphone?"
What he's really good at: having a total hissy fit over trivial things.
Last but not least there is the youngest boy. He has the potential to be either a genius or a sociopath, there is just a fine line between brilliance and madness. He's very creative and sensitive and has a very short fuse...
His self-control is not the best, there are some things he just can't resist, like finding out what happens when you microwave a gummibear or how far you can stick your foot down the toilet. He also likes to talk in different accents, most recently he's going for the Louisiana accent of the swamp people.
His motto is: "I'm not doing that!"
What he's really good at: ignoring any attempts of parenting

Zuerst ist die Mutter dran - das wäre dann wohl ich. Ich versuche alles und alle zusammenzuhalten und versuche das wohl manchmal zu sehr... Im allgemeinen bin ich aber ziemlich fantastisch!
Ich versuche den Überblick zu behalten und wünsche mir ein Leben jenseits der Norm. In letzter Zeit habe ich eine recht niedrige Toleranz für Schwachsinn entwickelt.
Mein Motto ist: " Was immer du bist, sei ein guter!" (Abraham Lincoln), auch wenn ich an manchen Tagen eher zu "Schade, dass Dummheit nicht wehtut" (Anton Lavey) neige.
Was ich wirklich gut kann: nachtragend sein.
Dann kommt der Vater, mein Ehemann. Selbst wenn er einen guten Tag hat ist er grantig und er neigt dazu, etwas ungeduldig zu sein. Was ihn momentan am meisten aufregt ist dass seine kleine Tochter langsam erwachsen wird...
Im allgemeinen ist er glücklich und zufrieden wenn er entweder mit dem Wohnmobil beim campen ist, fischen kann, oder seiner Arbeit als Installateur nachgehen kann.
Sein Motto ist: "Manchmal läuft es Scheiße, und Scheiße fliesst immer bergab"
Was er wirklich gut kann: es stundenlang auf dem Sofa aushalten.
Dann wäre da noch der ältere Junge. Er ist blond, süß und gescheit - und wirklich naiv. Er schafft es zur gleichen Zeit fürsorglich und besorgt, ehrlich und dramatisch zu sein.
Zwei seiner besten Eigenschaften sind dass er sehr gelassen ist und sich nicht dem Leistungsdruck hingibt. Eine nicht so schöne Eigenschaft ist dass er ein Fan von Justin Bieber und Cody Simpson ist.
Er treibt seinen Bruder fast täglich in den Wahnsinn, wenn er versucht ihn zu bemuttern - das ist schonmal was, was er mir abnimmt...
Sein Motto ist: "Kann ich ein iphone haben?"
Was er wirklich gut kann: einen totalen Anfall wegen absoluter Kleinigkeiten haben.
Zu guter letzt ist da noch der jüngere Junge. Er hat das Potential entweder ein Genie oder ein Soziopath zu sein, es ist eben eine Gratwanderung zwischen Genialität und Wahnsinn. Er ist sehr kreativ und sensibel und Geduld ist praktisch nicht vorhanden...
Um seine Selbstbeherrschung ist es auch nicht gut bestellt, manchen Dingen kann er einfach nicht widerstehen - wie Gummibären in die Mikrowelle stecken oder herausfinden wie weit man seinen Fuß ins Klo stecken kann. Er spricht außerdem gerne in verschiedenen Dialekten, in letzter Zeit bevorzugt er den Dialekt der Alligatorjäger in den Südstaaten der USA.
Sein Motto ist: "Das mache ich nicht!"
Was er wirklich gut kann: jeden Erziehungsversuch ignorieren.
Das war's zur Einführung - bald geht es weiter mit unseren Abenteuern :)
P.S. Oct. 15 th - just found out that there already is a "Happy Immigrant" on the web - will come up with a new name for the next blog (don't worry Heidi, I'll still cut you in on the profits once we do the TV show, it was your idea after all :))
